An editing enquiry needs more than a deadline. Keep the source material, deliverables, revision expectations and commercial agreement clear before the first timeline opens.
Turn an editing request into a usable brief
Record the intended audience, the purpose of the edit, the amount and condition of supplied material, target runtimes, aspect ratios and required captions. Keep links to your existing media and review tools in the brief or notes.
Ask who supplies the script, selects the takes and consolidates feedback. If those responsibilities are unclear, a small editing request can become a much larger production job.
Make the revision allowance visible
Use hourly, daily or fixed package line items. State how many review rounds are included, what counts as a new deliverable and what happens when the brief changes. Before acceptance, save changed proposals as new quote versions. After acceptance, propose a variation from the job for changed or additional work.
The accepted quote stays unchanged. A priced variation records the new scope separately, and approval creates delivery tasks for those extra versions.
Plan the handovers
Acceptance creates a task for each agreed delivery version. Review those tasks, then add asset collection, first-cut review and feedback actions. The calendar shows dated open tasks and job deliveries alongside all-day editing entries.
The CRM does not host footage, provide frame-accurate review or replace your editing application. Keep those specialist tools and use the production reference to connect their folders and links to the job.
Common questions
Can I price editing by the hour?
Yes. Give a rate-card line a clear unit, such as Editing / hour, and enter the estimated quantity and your own rate.
Does it track billable time automatically?
No. The app records quoted quantities and task dates. Time tracking and actual-versus-estimated reporting are not included.
